New Rector, Renovated Nave at St. Francis Church, Potomac Parish

religion; family friendly; free event; Potomac;

St. Francis Episcopal Church, founded in 1955, is pleased to announce Father Mark Michael has joined our parish as our first new rector in 22 years. In addition, the parish has recently completed a 3-year renovation of our church, as seen in the photo. Our doors are open to new and old Christians, or those thinking about joining a church. We offer a friendly congregation with an outstanding chorus. Father Mark is a graduate of Duke University and Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He can trace his Maryland lineage back 300 years. He is married to Pastor Allison, an ordained Lutheran minister, and they have two young boys. We offer church services at 8 am Sundays (no music), 9:15 am Sundays (with choral music), and 10 am Wednesday (no music). We also offer special evenings of music a few times each year: The next will occur on Sunday, Dec. 4th, as our musical director, Gary Davidson, will present an Advent Festival of Lessons and Music, beginning at 5 pm, followed by a reception. Our parish offers a full range of activities and groups, including Sunday school, a youth group, a women's group, a men's fellowship group, altar guilds, flower guilds, and many more. We are active in community service events. We are best known for hosting the Potomac Country House Tour most falls. We also have a thrift sale every spring. We also participate in Loaves and Fishes and other outreach activities to those in need in our community. We are collecting Christmas dinners, for example, on Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 17 for those in need in Potomac, Maryland.
