Verb8tm Inc. Changes Leadership!

TOWSON, MD – June 1, 2016. Verb8tm, Inc. announces strategic leadership changes. Effective June 1st, David Tohn, former Chief Executive Officer, takes the role of Chairman of the Board and Ellyn Sheffield, PhD., former President, assumes the position of CEO. Former Chairman, Craig Cummings, PhD., remains on the Board of Directors and as an active advisor to Verb8tm™. Daniel Cummings remains as the Chief Operating Officer.

Verb8tm™ provides captions, transcripts, and text for complex audio in the media and education sectors. Major customers include National Public Radio, the University of Maryland System, the Texas Bar Association, and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. Since spinning out from its parent company, BTS Software Solutions, in August 2015, Verb8tm™ has experienced significant growth in production, revenue, size of workforce and has achieved major technical innovations.

This early success is the product of the founders’ laser focus in building Verb8tm for long term growth. “We believe we’ve hit the right inflection point in Verb8tm’s growth to make these leadership changes,” said out-going Chairman and veteran entrepreneur Craig Cummings. “David, Ellyn, and Dan built the foundation necessary for the company to thrive and expand. All of the metrics are in the right place – revenues up, costs down, market share growing, technology advancing – it’s impressive what they’ve done in such a short time.”

To date, Dr. Sheffield has established clients and accounts, built the operations team, and advanced integrative technology while David Tohn has focused on company strategy and investments. COO Dan Cummings built and continues to oversee Verb8tm’s business operations.

David Tohn, a retired Army veteran, has worked with advanced technology, operations, and strategic planning for most of his 24 years as in military intelligence. Under David’s leadership as CEO, Verb8tm as a division of BTS Software Solutions was transferred from Towson University’s College of Liberal Arts in December 2014 and spun out as a separate company in August of 2015.

Ellyn Sheffield, PhD, has led Verb8tm’s operational efforts since the company’s inception. She brings great experience to Verb8tm, having background in cognitive science, psycho acoustics and user interface design and having served as Verb8tm’s Vice President and President since December 2014.
