Animal Shelter At Ease After Residents Turn Out To Help
The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center is no longer in a "critical capacity" mode after the community came together.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A pet adoption center is breathing a sigh of relief after the community turned out and helped the shelter get down to its goal number.
The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center told Patch that the shelter was able to get down to 76 dogs after a large intake of pets sent the center into a "critical capacity" level.
Maria Anselmo, a MCASAC spokesperson, said that in addition to the 18 dogs that were adopted over the last few days, a total of 10 dogs were placed in foster homes since the shelter's call for help first went out Friday.

In its original post to the community, the shelter said the urgency to find adopters and foster homes for its large dogs had doubled after it experienced an intake of 29 dogs over two days.
Anselmo told Patch that, compared to the same timeframe last year, the shelter has seen a 20% increase in dogs being surrendered to the shelter.

If you've got space in your home or know someone who's looking for a best friend, Anselmo said the shelter will be holding its very own March Madness Dog Adoption event.
The event is set for March 28, with discounted adoption fees at just $16. Stay tuned to the MCASAC for specific details on the time and location.
The shelter, which is closed on Wednesday, is located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.
Throughout the week, except Wednesdays, the shelter is open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, interested adopters can visit between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
