Final Decision Made On Redland Boulevard Parking Lanes
The City of Rockville confirmed it will not implement permanent parking lanes on Redland Boulevard, effective March 1.
ROCKVILLE, MD — City officials in Rockville have announced that permanent parking lanes will not be installed on Redland Boulevard.
The decision, which took effect Sunday, was under consideration as part of an ongoing effort to manage traffic flow and resident needs within the city.
Planning documents indicated that several factors were weighed in the decision-making process, such as traffic volume, pedestrian safety, and the overall impact on local residents and businesses.

Officials concluded that although their six-week trial period resulted in a significant drop in speed camera citations, the initiative also prompted a rise in traffic congestion during peak commuter hours.
The study had been run between Sept. 21 and Oct. 17, at which time one travel lane between Gaither Road and Elmcroft Boulevard was temporarily repurposed in each direction to serve as a parking lane.

Further shutting down the project was the finding that many drivers did not use the on-street parking spaces, and that residents were not supportive of the lane repurposing initiative to improve safety along the corridor.
Other efforts will be made to improve the area, according to a release issued by the city.
