MD Police Will Increase Patrols This Weekend
Troopers will increase visibility across all 23 barracks from March 13 through March 17 to combat impaired and distracted driving.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Maryland State Police is putting drivers on notice as the force plans to increase patrols through the St. Patrick's Day weekend.
The agency announced that, in coordination with local police departments, it will be monitoring for aggressive, distracted and impaired driving on all major roadways.
Troopers from all 23 barracks will conduct saturation patrols across the state. The enforcement period begins on Friday and runs through Tuesday.

The operations include specific focus areas on interstates 495, 270, 70, 81, and 695, as well as U.S. routes 301, 50, 5, 65, and 295.
State police are advising residents to designate a sober driver before attending events. Officials recommend using public transportation, taxis, or ride-share services to ensure safe travel.

The agency has also noted that party hosts may be held liable if a guest is involved in an impaired driving crash after being served alcohol.
Property owners are strongly encouraged to serve food and non-alcoholic beverages alongside alcohol. They should also collect keys from guests who appear impaired.
The campaign is being carried out in an effort to lower the statistical risk of accidents during the holiday weekend.
Funding for the initiative comes from the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office.
