An estimated 4,100 miles of residential roadways will be impacted.

MCDOT Director Chris Conklin said the sweeping is needed as the "unusually active winter" required repeat applications of salt and brine roadway treatments.

"Road salt is highly corrosive to roads and vehicles, and harmful to our waterways. Excess debris can clog our storm drains and cause flooding during severe storms," Conklin said in a release.

"By keeping your cars off the road, our crews can better sweep curbs and gutters, where salt and debris collect."

In 2025, officials removed about 750 tons of debris.

While the department will post "no parking" signs along impacted roadways, no cars will be towed. Residents are urged to move their cars, as street sweepers will not return at a later date.
