2 Arrested In Armed Robberies Of Silver Spring Exxon, 7-Eleven: Police

Montgomery County Police charged two men in connection with a pair of recent armed robberies at a Silver Spring 7-Eleven and Exxon station.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police arrested two men in connection with two recent armed robberies of businesses on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, according to a release.

Through their investigation, detectives identified 25-year-old Shamell Naquan Joyner of Washington D.C. as a suspect in the robbery last Friday at an Exxon in the 9300 block of Georgia Ave., according to the release.

Police say that Joyner entered the gas station, locked the front door and went behind the counter. Pointing a handgun at an employee, he demanded that they open the register and then left the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators also identified Joyner and 30-year-old Aaron Christopher Johnson of an unconfirmed address as suspects in the May 2 armed robbery of a 7-Eleven in the 8400 block of Georgia Ave., according to a release.

In that incident, police say Joyner approached an employee at the store's counter and pointed a handgun. He then demanded cash, exited the store, and drove off with Johnson and an undisclosed amount of currency, according to police.

Police filed armed robbery and firearm-related charges against Joyner and Johnson with conspiracy armed robbery.

Both Joyner and Johnson are currently being held at a correctional facility in Washington, D.C. on unrelated charges.
