Be Very Afraid Of 2022 Haunted House Gallery: MD Halloween Decorations
Patch readers from across Maryland shared photos of their scary Halloween decorations.
MARYLAND — As the days get colder and the nights grow longer, Halloween inches closer. Not only is the holiday a night for trick-or-treaters to score some sweet candy, it also gives the scary set across Maryland the chance to decorate their homes with ghosts, ghouls, witches, skeletons, and jack o' lanterns.
Patch asked its readers to share photos of their Halloween decorations for our 2022 Haunted House Gallery. Below are some of the photos we've received from Maryland residents.

"Drove 6 hours round trip to pick up this skelly in 2020. Each year we decorate him based on some theme. Here, he has succumbed to a spider outbreak! We won our neighborhood’s yard decorating contest this year!" — Amy V. Uhrin, Silver Spring

"Here are photos of my Halloween display at 2207 Stryker Court, Timonium, Maryland 21093. All of the signs and most of the tombstones were handmade by me. There are some store bought tombstones in the back that I repainted to make more realistic." — Tim Coulson, Timonium

"Hi, I’m Tiffany and my boyfriend Dean and I have decorated for the past three years. We are at 1242 Sharon Acres Road, Forest Hill, MD 21050 and as long as it’s not raining everything is on display until after Halloween and then we start decorating for Christmas. The display can be viewed day and night. The animatronics are turned on at night for a few hours, as long as weather is good." — Tiffany Gunnarson, Forest Hill

"The Catalina Haunt is located at 11423 Catalina Terrace Silver Spring, MD 20902. This is my 7th year doing this and the community loves coming out the whole month of October to enjoy the spooky animations that talk to you and jump scare the brave souls. Stop on by Wednesday and Thursday 6:45pm until 8pm and Friday and Saturday until 8:30pm. Halloween is going to epic so stop on by. Last year we had over 500 little ones enjoying a night of fun and excitement!" — Holly Agouridis, Wheaton

"This is my 25th year decorating my house for Halloween. Set up takes me 55 hours. We get on average 400 tricker treaters that make it to the front door. It’s Spooktacular! " — Craig Schuelke, Cannery Court in Forest Hill

"We have early trick or treaters! We are located in the Running Brook neighborhood. We decorate our bench every month with a different theme. Of course October is the Halloween theme. We’ve been doing this for 7 years. The neighborhood loves it. Walkers always stop and make lovely comments, even as we are decorating. It seems they actually expect to see a new bench theme with the change of season or holiday. We love contributing in a fun way to our community. Happy Halloween! — Carolyn & John Koenig, Columbia

"What makes my yard haunt special is that I have a mix of spooky kind of ghosts, ghouls, witches, jack-o-lantern, killer clown on window display. Alongside, I have created a grave yard with tombstones and skeletons popping out of the ground and relaxing on the tombstone. There is also a special attraction in the form of a bright red zombie hand coming out of the locked door covered with chains. On the other side of the house, there's a 7.5 feet Haunted tree with owl, ghost and pumpkins inflatable on display. I have also put some window posters to go along with the decorations." — Nikhil Kanchan, Ellicott City

"We have been running our Ravenscroft Manor haunt for over nine years. Each year we enhance the theme and try to find a way to keep it fresh. Our layout is basically a haunted cemetery complete with tombstones, coffins, and spooky residents who refuse to leave the grounds.
"We have most of the tombstones and props up by October 1st. The animatronics come out as we complete them, because we are trying to build things after-hours and on the weekends. Every year we add something new so it takes 2-3 days to set everything up. But no matter what, everything is down every year on November 1st.
"This year we set up an Instagram page so everyone can follow our progress as well!
"Our haunt has lights only every evening from 6-10. We are located at 14704 Carona Drive, Silver Spring MD 20905. Halloween night is the full show- we add the fog, sounds and motion sensor props for the big night!" — Mordsithjen

Wayne and Glenda Sanders have been putting their hearts and “souls” into this display for decades. The Erie Acres Cemetery has been haunting the Back River Neck peninsula since 1996 and is best viewed at night.

"My husband puts up an impressive Halloween display in King Farm. We would love more people to know about it." — Marie O'Dea, Rockville

"We went all out this year and made a DIY display using scraps we had in the house with only a few bought items to add oomph. Presenting a coven of five witches and a potion cauldron spewing out gnarly looking liquid. Materials used: tomato cages, contractor plastic bags, bamboo stakes, twine, foaming insulation, leftover drywall, chainlinks, some paint, cauldron, orange lights, pond foggers, and random things like tulle from our wedding and plant shade cloth for witches hair."
"My husband and I (and sometimes our 2-year old) had so much fun making these and certainly proud of how it came together." — Vinaya Sakpal, Ellicott City

"This house is always a kid friendly Halloween! This year they added a few projections and more items on the side of the house. They are a corner lot, so a lot to see.
"The blow-ups run all day and most of the night and usually run 24 hours a day the few days before Halloween.
"On Halloween day they even add more to their driveway, to make it entertaining for the kids.
"It is a must see for all ages. Happy Halloween." — Tina Crespo

Bob and Melissa decided to share a few photos of their Dead End Cemetery, located at 2724 Cassedy St. in Silver Spring. Here's what they had to say about their Halloween decorations:
"We have been haunting National Park Seminary since 2016. The boarded up windows and many of the tombstones are handmade by me. While the three skeletons on the second story window sills purport to See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Speak No Evil we don’t really believe them.
"Our cemetery is best viewed at night, although it easier to see all of the details during daylight hours. Set up takes approximately 20 hours over several days, while tear down only takes approx 4 hours.
"Each October the Cemetery returns, but new features appear each year. This year the new features are the lighted skull on the front door and the red skulls on pikes. The See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Speak No Evil trio of skeletons are making a reappearance following a three-year hiatus."

"We love Halloween and have been creating and modifying our yard display for several years. We were on the Patch last year but have added some new members to our skeleton crew this year and have some new features, including a grave digging skeleton who can’t seem to stop digging." — Jessica Lucania, Bel Air

For the third year in a row, Joanne Wachholder and her family are hosting a "Wacky Halloween Walk-Thru" just down the road from the Germantown SoccerPlex at 18120 Northern Dancer Lane in Boyds.
"We have expanded with some new inflatables (14 in total) great for photo ops," Wachholder said. "We are perfect for the younger kids, as it isn't too scary, just lots of fun! The setup is you walk across the front yard under the archway, along the side into the backyard, walk through the display in the backyard and exit the opposite side gate, circling back to the driveway."

The Wachholder family is also collecting donations for Germantown Help, which will provide food for Germantown families in need during the holidays.
The display is open to walk through, weather permitting, from 6-9 p.m., on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October and, of course, on Halloween.

Mark Benesch's mother told him about Patch's 2022 Haunted House Gallery, so he shared this photo of the decorations at this Catonsville home.

"My yard isn’t very big but I try to make the best display I can without making it look to cluttered. The kids can actually play the games that are in the display during the day before 8 p.m., and on occasion I might even pop out of the house with a prize for the winners. And, no, the “candy” on the rotten candy table is not edible. I live at 808 Comer Square in Bel Air. Thank you." — Molly Dennis, Bel Air
