$50K Top-Prize On MD Lottery Ticket Won By Silver Spring Taxi Driver

SILVER SPRING, MD — A taxi driver from Silver Spring recently claimed his $50,000 top-winning prize from the Maryland Lottery.

The Montgomery County man purchased his $50,000 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket at the Party Time Beer & Wine located at 11443 Georgia Ave.

“The key is not to think about it,” the man told lottery officials when asked about his win. “Whenever I imagine how it will feel to win and what I’ll do with the money, I never seem to win.”

However, if the taxi driver can erase any thoughts from his mind about a big lottery win, he tends to have better luck.

“I won’t say that I win every time I manage to do it, but nearly every time I can put a ticket out of my thoughts, I bring home cash," he said.

When the Silver Spring driver discovered he'd won the $50,000 prize in the Nov. 13 drawing, it was the biggest surprise in his life.

“I always tried not to think about it, of course, but when I did, I imagined that I’d jump for joy," he said. "Instead, I just stood there, completely frozen.”

As to what he plans to do with his winnings, the man told lottery officials he and his wife were going to puttee money toward their children's future, mostly to benefit their education. “There will be plenty of fun, family stuff, too,” he said.

Party Time Beer & Wine will receive a $500 bonus for selling the $50,000 top-prize winning ticket.
