Dino A. Brugioni, the Man Who Alerted President Kennedy to the Cuban Missile Crisis,To Speak at Riderwood on Thursday, January 6, in Silver Spring, MD
SILVER SPRING, MD -- Dino A. Brugioni, the former senior officer at the National Photographic Center and the man who first recognized Russian atomic missiles installed in Cuba that sparked the Cuban Missile Crisis, will speak about "Aerial and Satellite Reconnaissance Techniques" at Riderwood on January 6, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., at the campus' Encore Theater, 3140 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD. Seating is limited. To RSVP for this free lecture, call Robert Davis (Tel: 301627-6257).
Brguioni will speak as part of Riderwood's Science Technology Series. His role in the Cuban Missile Crisis is a fascinating snapshot of a time in history when the threat of war grew more intense with each passing second. He was to go to a bunker with the President Kennedy and other high government officials if war started. However, President Kennedy prevailed and got the Russians to pull back troops, missiles and airplanes out of Cuba with a promise by Kennedy that the United States would not invade Cuba and would remove its missiles in Turkey aimed at Russia.
