Five hundred boxes of groceries will be given to families in need during the coronavirus pandemic. The event is on April 18.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Government, church, and nonprofit leaders will be distributing 500 boxes of groceries to families in need at White Oak Recreation Center on Saturday.

The Grab-N-Go Grocery event is sponsored by Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando, Kingdom Fellowship AME Church, and Capital Area Food Bank. Event hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or while supplies last.

"This is an unprecedented moment — one that calls for the highest levels of partnership and collaboration," said Radha Muthiah, president and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank. "The food bank is proud to be supplying food to organizations across the metropolitan region, and we're especially pleased to work with Councilmember Jawando and Kingdom Fellowship AME Church to ensure our neighbors in Montgomery (County) get the food they need during these most challenging times."

This new partnership will continue through April. County officials say Kingdom Fellowship will be distributing food on Capital Area Food Bank's behalf in eastern Montgomery County.

"Many residents in the White Oak community rely on public transportation and have also been hit hard by the economic downturn because of COVID-19. The availability of groceries will make a significant difference to residents facing food insecurity," Jawando said.
