Man Accused Of Ramming Police Car During Silver Spring Drug Bust
Two men are facing charges following the Tuesday bust in downtown Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said.
SILVER SPRING, MD — Two men are facing charges following a Montgomery County drug bust that ended when one of them rammed a police cruiser with a car, authorities said.
Kendel Tramel Young, 32, of Capitol Heights, and 21-year-old Gerardo Lovo of Lovettsville, Virginia, were arrested Tuesday following the incident that occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1100 block of East West Highway.
According to police, two District 3 plain-clothes officers were working in downtown Silver Spring when they observed a suspected drug deal. Authorities said the officers stopped a vehicle driven by Lovo and found drugs in his possession. While searching the car, police said officers also found powder and crack cocaine.

According to District 3 Commander Jason Cokinos, Lovo admitted to purchasing some of the drugs from Young.
During the stop, police said Young used a different car and rammed the officers' police cruiser. Authorities said he tried to flee but was taken into custody.

According to police, a loaded handgun was found in Young’s possession during the arrest. Authorities said the gun had been reported stolen from Prince George’s County. Officers also recovered two pounds of marijuana from the car, Cokinos said.
Following his arrest, Young was charged with first-degree assault, CDS distribution with a firearm, CDS distribution of narcotics, CDS possession with intent to distribute cannabis, possession of a loaded handgun on person, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
Lovo has been charged with CDS possession (not cannabis) and CDS possession with intent to distribute narcotics (cocaine).
Both Young and Lovo were taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where they were held without bond.
