SILVER SPRING, MD — Authorities have arrested and charged a 27-year-old man they say took upskirt photos and videos of women at a downtown Silver Spring mall.

Abdul Muhammad, of an unconfirmed address, is accused of taking those inappropriate pictures and videos of women as they rode up the escalator at Ellsworth Place mall, according to Montgomery County Police.

On Wednesday, May 15, Central Business District officers and Ellsworth Place mall security monitored the escalators in hopes that they would catch the suspect in the act. Officers then spotted the suspect, who refused to identify himself to police.

Authorities said they took the suspect into custody and later identified him as Muhammad.

According to police, Muhammad was charged with four counts of using a camera (for prurient intent) to conduct visual surveillance of the private area of the victims without their consent. He was also charged with refusing to identify himself to authorities.

Muhammad was released after posting a $3,000 bond.
