Officials ID MoCo Police Officer Involved In Man's Fatal Shooting
State prosecutors also released the name of the man fatally shot following a standoff at a home on Hampton Point Drive in Fairland.

FAIRLAND, MD — State prosecutors on Tuesday released the name of a man fatally shot by a Montgomery County police officer during an incident in Fairland last week.
Officers responded to a home in the 3300 block of Hampton Point Drive in Fairland around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday after a person called 911 and told dispatchers her brother was armed with a gun and assaulting their mother, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown said last week. The caller also reported hearing gunshots.
When officers arrived at the residence, they set up a perimeter around the home. After hearing gunshots inside, a SWAT team was called and authorities spent several hours attempting to negotiate with the brother who prosecutors later identified as 28-year-old Bishop Jones-Daniel of Forestville.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, SWAT officers entered the home and found Jones-Daniel. After giving Jones-Daniel commands, Officer Edward Cochran fired his gun multiple times, striking Jones-Daniel, prosecutors said.
Officers provided first aid to Jones-Daniel, who was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

Jones-Daniel's mother was also taken to the hospital where she was treated and released, prosecutors said.
Cochran is a 14-year veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department. He is assigned to the Field Services Bureau, prosecutors said. No officers were injured during the incident.
Officers at the scene were equipped with body-worn cameras, which recorded the incident, prosecutors said. The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General's Office is expected to release the footage at a later date.
The shooting remains under investigation.
