• Gilbane Building Completes 117,000-SF Maryland Elementary School (constructionowners.com) — A brand-new JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres in Silver Spring is ready to welcome students this fall, adding space for more than 130 additional children. The 117,000-square-foot building features flexible learning spaces, geothermal heating and cooling, and was delivered with strong minority-business participation, boosting both education and local economic opportunity.
   

• Montgomery County's connection to a new era of women's baseball (mymcmedia.org) — Silver Spring residents can cheer on hometown player Stephanie Everett, now with the Boston Hunters in the new Women's Pro Baseball League, at a county-hosted watch party Sept. 3 at Good Hope Recreation Center. The free event in Silver Spring starts at 6 p.m. and features a New York vs. Los Angeles matchup on the big screen, celebrating this new era of professional women's baseball.
   

• Silver Spring man charged with rape, assault in Takoma Park, police say (wusa9.com) — A 21-year-old Silver Spring resident has been charged with multiple serious offenses after police say an 18-year-old woman reported being attacked at a Takoma Park residence and later went to White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring. Officers arrested the suspect after asking him to come to the Takoma Park Police Department, and he now faces rape, assault, and false imprisonment charges.
