Pedestrian Identified Who Was Killed by Trash Truck at School
A man using a walker to cross a parking lot at a Silver Spring elementary school was hit and killed by a trash truck, police say.
SILVER SPRING, MD — Authorities have released the name of a Hillandale man who died Wednesday as he walked in the parking lot of a Silver Spring elementary school and was hit by a trash truck. Montgomery County Police say Collins Ellison, 66, from the 1200 block of Cresthaven Drive, died from his injuries at the scene.
The fatal accident happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Cresthaven Elementary School, 1234 Cresthaven Drive. Investigators say a waste disposal truck was backing up in the school parking lot when Ellison, who was using a walker, was struck by the truck.
The driver of the trash truck, identified as Vincent Carruth, 48, of the 7100 block of Smooth Path in Columbia, remained at the scene and was not hurt.

No charges have been filed in the case.
The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 240-773-6620.
