SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County police are asking for the public's help in locating the family of a pedestrian who was fatally hit by a van in the White Oak area Saturday.

Authorities have identified the pedestrian as Hector Ruben Caballero Herrera, 49, of an unknown address.

The incident happened at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Lockwood Drive around 9:11 p.m. Saturday.

Police determined Herrera was trying to cross New Hampshire Avenue when, for reasons still under investigation, he was hit by a 2019 Ford Transit 250. Herrera died at the scene, according to authorities.

"Detectives have been unable to locate any of Herrera's family members and are asking anyone with information on possible family members to please call detectives at: 240-773-6620," police said in a statement.
