A retired librarian from Silver Spring has won $100,000 in the Oct. 24 Powerball drawing.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A retired librarian from Silver Spring has won $100,000 in the Oct. 24 Powerball drawing. The 66-year-old father of three was one of three players in the state to win the third-tier prize, according to a Maryland Lottery press release. He was also the only player to add the Power Play multiplier.
The man bought his winning ticket at Giant Food, located at 2900 University Blvd in Wheaton.
"These are the only games I play, and I play them every week," the lottery winner said in a news release. "Each game, twice a week, every week."

Though he's a loyal player, the Silver Spring man busy schedule prevented him from checking his winning Powerball ticket for a week. The Maryland Lottery said the former library worker added the Power Play multiplier to his quick-pick ticket, doubling his prize.
“I stayed calm when I saw the matching numbers,” the winner said told lottery officials. “I checked them again and again, maybe 10 times. I even used a magnifying glass to make sure that I wasn’t seeing things.”
