SILVER SPRING, MD — Even though a 58-year-old Silver Spring woman missed winning the $265 million jackpot by one number in the Jan. 2 Powerball drawing, her lucky numbers still added $50,004 to her bank account, according to a Maryland Lottery release.

The Montgomery County resident has been playing the same set of special numbers for years and decided to use them when she bought a ticket for the Jan. 2 drawing. She purchased her Powerball ticket at the Giant #327, which is located at 7142 Arlington Road in Bethesda.

When the woman's husband used the Lottery’s app to check the ticket the next day, he discovered that his wife had matched four white balls and the red Powerball for $50,000 on one line. She also matched a red Powerball on another line, which brought her total to $50,004.

“When my husband called to tell me, I just couldn’t believe it,” the woman said, in the release. “I usually only win small amounts.”

The program assistant and her husband told lottery officials that they plan to use their winnings to pay some bills and put toward their two children's college tuitions.
