Student Charged in Bomb Threat at Montgomery Blair High School

The Silver Spring school was evacuated as a precaution Tuesday afternoon while police dogs searched for explosives; none were found.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Montgomery Blair High School student faces multiple charges after reportedly posing as a school resource officer to call in a bomb threat against the school Tuesday, officials said.

Montgomery County Police have charged a student at the school as a juvenile with making a false statement regarding a destructive device. The phony call was made at 12:14 p.m., when dispatchers were told there was a bomb in the school, 51 University Blvd. East in Silver Spring.

School administrators evacuated students from the building as a precaution while police canines searched the building for explosive devices. The all-clear was given shortly before 2 p.m. and students re-entered the building, police said.

The Montgomery Blair school resource officer investigated the bomb threat and a student reportedly admitted making the threatening call to police.

The SRO charged the student as a juvenile with one count of making a false statement concerning a destructive device, one count of making a threat to explode a destructive device, and one count of threats of bodily harm; disturbing classes and activities.

The student’s parents will retain care and custody of their child.
