• An 18-year-old senior at , Yan is a National Merit Scholarship Winner, Intel Science Talent Search Semi-Finalist, United States Presidential Scholar and placed 2^nd in the National Science Bowl.
• Her other academic interests include neuroscience and journalism.
• Yan enjoys helping other people and spends a lot of time volunteering in nursing homes, hospitals and the Special Olympics.
• In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano, writing creatively, and playing basketball.
