Joe Uehlein to host tribute to legendary folk singer at 35the Festival.

The 35th annual Takoma Park Folk Festival will take place on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, from 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and will pay tribute to one of America’s greatest musical legends, Woody Guthrie, on the centennial anniversary of the performer’s birth. Guthrie, perhaps best known for “This Land is Your Land,” is one of the true pioneers of American Folk music.
More than 50 performers are expected to participate in seven different locations, with a number of other acts roving the grounds of Takoma Park Middle School.

In addition to the 75-minute tribute to Woody Guthrie, the 2012 Folk Festival will feature a new event. “We will have a new tented area for local music teachers to demonstrate various musical instruments donated by [Wheaton music retailer] Chuck Levin’s," said A.J. Campbell, who is handling the publicity and marketing of the 35th Festival. “We’ve received many applications so far, and hope this area will inspire the next generation of musicians,” she said.
