9th Annual Azalea Awards: Nomination Requests

The 9th Annual Azalea Awards are in the works! Please help celebrate the abundance of civic spirit and energy in our community by nominating those special people who make our lives in Takoma so satisfying.

Nominees are being accepted in these ten categories:

* Mentor (someone who inspires children to aim high)

*Educator (school staffer who makes a difference)

*School activist (a parent who brings the best to our schools)

*Arts leader (someone who contributes to a dynamic arts community)

*Coach (keeps sports vibrant and accessible)

*Business leader (promotes progressive spirit through local commerce)

*Green activist (turns environmental ideals into achievements)

*Neighborhood volunteer ("walks the walk"  to make a great neighborhood
even better)

*Spirit (reflects local character with panache)

*Tak-tivist (commits to civic leadership, year-in year-out)

Nominations close at midnight on Monday, April 8, 2013.

Submit nominations to Katya Partan (katya@partan.com) or Howard Kohn (kohn@erols.com). Nominations should be 3-4 sentences in length and should describe clearly, with examples, why the person fits the category. Please include the nominee's email or phone number. The ballot editors reserve the right to edit your statements or combine statements in case of multiple nominations for a single nominee. Azalea winners from the last 4 years are not eligible for this year's award.
