It Takes a Community to Save a Lost Dog

We need your help to find our beloved rescue dog Madeline who has been lost since December 3, 2012.  We've had sightings all over Montgomery County  but most recently in Takoma Park.

Maddie’s family has put their life on hold, emptied their wallets, feared the worst and lost a lot of sleep. And yet, we still cannot save our lost dog without our community's time and support.

Madeline has had her share of hard times. We don't know her history or why she is so afraid, but we earned her trust after a careful and patient effort; along the way she won our hearts. She is family – one of us – not "just a dog." But she's on her own now and won't ask humans for help. If she was a child, we'd have help from police, etc. but she's "just a dog," so it's all up to us and our dedicated supporters to find her. There is no one else.

You may be wondering what Madeline is doing out there. She is in survival mode - trying to meet her basic needs for safety, water and food and trying to find her way back home. She will not come to people - very few lost dogs will respond to people after even just a few days, let alone nearly 4 months.

Our best chance of bringing her home is getting her used to going to one place repeatedly for food so we can catch her.

We know you're busy - we are too. But we need your help. This is our plea to you now.

We are looking for people who can consistently put food out for her near your home and/or in a neighborhood park. Yes, we may end up feeding raccoons or other critters. However, it may also open up a window of opportunity to give a chance to rescue Madeline and bring her back home where her family and friends love her deeply. By keeping Madeline from roaming over a wide area, by meeting her food needs, she may stick around a smaller area, like a neighborhood, which gives us a much better chance of finding her.

Maddie's parents would provide all the dog food and supplies. Your task would be to put some out every day for a month, whether it is being eaten or not. The other commitment would be to report results back (eaten or not eaten) by phone or email. This would only take about 10 minutes a day.
