Maryland Municipal LeagueExecutive Director Scott A. Hancock Electedas National Academy for Public Administration Fellow

Washington, D.C.—Maryland Municipal League (MML) Executive Director Scott A. Hancock has been elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). Hancock – who leads the statewide association serving Maryland’s 157 cities and towns, and two special taxing districts – will be inducted at NAPA’s annual fall meeting in mid-November. 

The National Academy of Public Administration (the Academy) is an independent, non-profit, and non-partisan organization established in 1967 to assist government leaders in building more effective, efficient, accountable, and transparent organizations. Chartered by Congress to provide non-partisan expert advice, the Academy’s unique feature is its more than 700 fellows–including former cabinet officers, Members of Congress, governors, mayors, and state legislators, as well as prominent scholars, business executives, and public administrators. 

Hancock has served as MML’s executive director since 1995, working closely throughout that time with hundreds of mayors, councilmembers, city and town managers, and other municipal leaders to advance the interests and priorities of Maryland’s cities and towns. In addition to leading MML, he also served on the National League of Cities’ Board of Directors from 2002-2003 and as an executive board member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) from 2007-2010. Prior to joining MML, he was a town manager for Narragansett, Rhode Island; York, Maine; and Centreville, Maryland. Hancock holds a Master of Management degree from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Sociology from Western Maryland College.
