Bites Nearby: Good Stuff Eatery

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Takoma Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

Good Stuff Eatery, the burger joint o'love of Chef Spike Mendelsohn of Top Chef fame, is aptly named. Its burgers, fries, milkshakes and more are exactly the stuff that I would request if I were on Death Row and had to choose my last meal.

From the burgers you can select cow, turkey and veggie. No wonder Spike won Rachael Rayโ€™s burger bash. I adore the vegetarian portobello cheeseburger - it is substantial, juicy and heavenly. The free range turkey burgers and Blazinโ€˜ Barns are also tops.

All burgers include farmerโ€™s market produce piled on these buttery rich buns. Various burger combinations offer bacon, cheese, chili, onion rings and other delicacies. Each burger is the perfect compactly put- together 1/4 lb. portion and all priced at under seven dollars each.

Spikeโ€™s Village Fries are a must-order. They are heavily seasoned rustic fried potato mini-wedges dipped into various dips from the mayonnaise bar. (The Old Bay mayo is my fave.) French fry nirvana can be yours for under four bucks.

The hand-spun milkshakes will cause happy spasms thanks to flavors like toasted marshmallow and classic black and white.

You can also pick up a perfectly poured brew to go with your burger and fries. Spike serves Blue Moon and Yeungling on tap, and Sam Adams and Red Stripe bottles.
