Down in the District: Pay Freeze for Fed Workers, Occupy DC on the Big Screen

We know: Montgomery County's the best place in the area to live, work, play, learn and eat. Though, sometimes, we get a yen to peek into the lives of our neighbors to the south. You know, the ones living in that tiny, little place called Washington, DC? 

Here's a cheat sheet of what's going on in the District.

• Federal workers shouldn't expect raises anytime soon: President Obama announced Tuesday that he's extending a pay freeze for federal workers until at least next spring. 

• One year later, we're still shaking over last year's East Coast earthquake: Watch this (literally) moving video from inside the Washington Monument during 2011's 5.8 magnitude earthquake. The monument hasn't reopened since the quake. 

• Occupy DC, again, on film: Lest you forget about the huddled masses that protested in McPherson Square last year during Occupy DC, there's a documentary to help you remember and relive. American Autumn screened at Busboys and Poets earlier this week, but the entire doc's available online.

• For when you need to be smart and arty at parties: "Belief+Doubt" is 6,700 square feet of red, black and white typography by Barbara Kruger at the Hirshhorn Museum. Running now until sometime in 2014, its classic Kruger, combining "political and socially-aware slogans with photography."
