Frugal Family: Five Deals to Stretch the Family Budget

Welcome back to our weekly rundown of five local deals to help with your family’s bottom line. Since we do the scouting, we save you time as well as money.

This week we scoured our local sources and found deals to save money on a summer lunch or dinner, and a free beverage and movie rental! Plus, steal-of-a-deal restaurant savings (act fast!). Remember to check with the merchant for additional conditions, if any:

1. Lunch or Dinner Savings: , 7720 Blair Rd., 301-589-5487.

Deal: Your choice of $3 off a 12-piece meal; a 16-piece "feast" for for $29.99; or get a 3-piece strips meal for lunch for just $4.49 or just $2.99 for a kids "laptop meal" and more discounts with one of these coupons.

Deal:  Get a free medium beverage of your choice by signing up for their "DD Perks Rewards" email club. One beverage award is sent when you sign up, and another for your birthday.

Good through: Ongoing; beverage coupon will be sent after online sign-up.

3. Womens Clothing: , 937 Ellsworth Dr., 301-589-0821.

Deals: 1) Now through Tuesday (June 28), save $20 on a $60 purchase (or $40 on $100) with their "Big Sale" coupon.  After Tuesday, you can still save $25 when you spend $75 when using the next coupon.

Good through: "Big Sale" coupon good through  June 28 (tomorrow); second coupon good through July 6. Both offers also available online using promo codes found on the coupons.

4. Free Movie Rental: Blockbuster Express at , 909 Thayer Ave., 301-565-0686.

Deal:  Get a free movie rental from one of Blockbuster's new movie kiosks, located in Safeway and other stores. Go online to BlockbusterExpress.com to find the Safeway kiosk nearest you, select a movie and enter GOSAFEWAY code at checkout to get a free movie rental code.

Good through: June 30.

5. Restaurant Steal-of-a-Deal: Restaurant.com

Deal: For a limited time, online restaurant deal site Restaurant.com is offering 80 percent savings on restaurant gift certificates (a $25 certificate can be as low as $2) using this code. Go to Restaurant.com to see listed restaurants; select your choice and enter the discount code at checkout.

Good through: June 30 (hurry!). Must enter code at checkout to obtain full discount. Please read the restrictions for each restaurant (found under the Add to Cart button) before certificate purchase.
