Takoma Park Apartment Fire Ruled Arson, Fire Officials Say

A Takoma Park apartment fire with around $20,000 in damages was determined to be arson, according to police.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — A fire that broke out at a Takoma Park apartment complex on Linden Avenue was determined to be arson, the spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and EMS Pete Piringer reported.

The fire broke out at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday at the Hillwood Manor apartments in the 1100 block of Linden Avenue. Two people were displaced, and the damage is estimated to be about $20,000, Piringer said.

One person who was hospitalized is being interviewed in connection to the fire, Piringer said. The person's name hasn't been released, pending charges.

About 55 firefighters responded to the scene for the one-alarm blaze and saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor, according to Piringer.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue five people trapped on the second floor because of the heavy smoke. No one was injured, Piringer said.
