Teens Charged With First-Degree Assault In Takoma Park

A woman was sitting in her car when a group of girls approached her, tased her and attempted to rob her Monday morning, police said.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — Detectives with the Takoma Park Police Department are investigating a first-degree assault that took place Monday morning in the area of Tulip Avenue at Willow Avenue.

At about 7:59 a.m., a woman was sitting in her car in the area when she was approached by a group of six or seven female teenagers. One of the teenagers asked the woman for directions to the metro while the rest of the subjects stood back, police said.

While giving directions, the victim noticed one of the subjects opening her rear passenger door and attempt to grab her bag. At the same time, the subject who had been asking for directions began hitting the victim and used a taser on her, leaving marks on her arms and neck, police said. The victim was not seriously physically injured.

Witnesses came to the victim’s aid and the subjects fled the area walking down Willow Avenue towards Valley View Avenue. One subject matching the description was seen walking on Willow Avenue towards Tulip Avenue and was taken into custody, police said. A K9 track led officers behind 11 Valley View Ave., where four more subjects who were hiding behind a shed were caught and taken into custody, police said.

All subjects were positively identified by witnesses and charges are pending, police said. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call police at 301-270-1100.
