Taxi Driver Robbed, Assaulted By 3 Armed Suspects: Takoma Park Police

A taxi cab driver was robbed and assaulted early Thursday morning on Cedar Avenue, Takoma Park police said.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — Takoma Park police officers are searching for three unknown armed suspects who allegedly robbed a taxi cab driver on Cedar Avenue early Thursday morning. (For more Takoma Park news, subscribe to the Takoma Park Patch daily newsletter and realtime breaking news alerts.)

At approximately 4:55 a.m. April 13, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7100 block of Cedar Avenue for the report of an armed robbery.

The victim, a taxi cab driver, was waiting to pick up a fare when his vehicle was surrounded by three males all dressed in dark clothing, police said.

One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and demanded property, police said.

When the taxi driver exited the vehicle, he was allegedly struck in the face by the armed suspect. Property was forcibly taken and the suspect fled on foot towards Tulip Avenue, police said.

A second suspect acted as a lookout while the third suspect went into the taxi cab, stole property and then fled on foot down Eastern Avenue, police said. A K9 track was conducted with negative results.

The taxi cab driver was not seriously physically injured.
