Police ID Victims In Deadly I-83 Crash

Police said a man and woman died in the crash, one of whom was thrown over a bridge.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 83 early Sunday morning, according to Maryland State Police. They had gotten out of their car, which had become disabled near Ruxton Road, when they were fatally hit by another driver, officials said.

Gary G. Boyd Jr., 37, of Baltimore, and Renee D. Harrell, 25, of Belcamp, were both pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.

Officials said that the 2009 Toyota Camry the pair had been traveling in had gotten into a crash and was disabled in a position perpendicular to the fast lane on I-83 north.

A 2013 Hyundai headed north on I-83 hit both individuals, throwing Boyd off the bridge into the river below, according to authorities.

A trooper from the Golden Ring Barrack came across the crash at 1:14 a.m. on Sunday while patrolling I-83 north, police reported.

Dana E. Parker, 49, of Owings Mills, had been driving the Hyundai, officials said. He refused treatment at the scene, according to authorities.

The crash is still under investigation and "nothing has been ruled out at this time," Maryland State Police said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

The interstate was closed in the area for several hours as authorities processed the scene.

I-83 north reopened around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, police reported.

INITIAL REPORT — Two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 83 early Sunday morning, according to Maryland State Police. Officials are still trying to identify the victims, a man and a woman who died on I-83 north near Ruxton Road.

The crash involved two cars, and police said the driver who survived is facing charges.

A trooper from the Golden Ring Barrack had been patrolling I-83 north when the officer came across the crash on I-83 north at Ruxton Road at 1:14 a.m. on Sunday, police reported.

One woman was found deceased in a car, and a man who had been ejected and thrown over the bridge from the same vehicle was found in a stream bed below the road, according to authorities.

The driver who survived refused medical treatment at the scene, police said, adding he will be identified once charges are filed.

I-83 north was closed at Northern Parkway for several hours as officials investigated. The road had reopened as of 7:37 a.m., state transportation officials reported.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police said.
