Baltimore County Public Schools Make Weather Call Tuesday, Jan 9

BREAKING: Baltimore County Public Schools modified the schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Schools and offices will open two hours late on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Baltimore County Public Schools officials made the announcement about the delay on Tuesday morning.

The delayed opening comes after freezing rain Monday afternoon and evening in the region prompted many schools, including those in Baltimore County, to close early.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement alerting those in the Baltimore-Washington area that the recent cold snap combined with temperatures dropping overnight would result in ice on untreated roads and sidewalks through early Tuesday morning.

"Use extreme caution if walking or driving early this morning. Treat any wet surface as ice," the National Weather Service said in a statement Tuesday. "Patchy fog has developed in subfreezing air early this morning across portions of the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area...Not only will this locally reduce visibility, but this will also contribute to an icy glaze on all untreated surfaces."
