Baltimore County Public Schools Selects New Superintendent

The board of education has selected the next superintendent for the Baltimore County Public Schools, pending state approval.

TOWSON, MD — The next person to serve as superintendent for the Baltimore County Public Schools system has been selected, the board of education announced Saturday.

The winner of the top BCPS job was not named as the candidate must still be approved by Dr. Carey Wright, the Maryland state superintendent. Once approved, the person will be named Monday.

  • Dr. William Heiser
    COO of Anne Arundel Co. Schools
  • Dr. Penelope Martin-Knox
    Missouri superintendent, Raytown C-2 School District
  • Dr. Edward Ryans
    Associate superintendent for high schools and nontraditional programs for Prince George’s County Public Schools
  • Dr. David Sovine
    Superintendent, Washington County Public Schools

Following the name reveal, the candidate will be officially appointed to the post Wednesday. The change will take effect July 1.

The opening for the superintendent role was announced in February, when current superintendent Myriam Rogers said she would be retiring.
