Baltimore Mayor Hit with Liquid, Suspect Charged with Assault: Reports

A Baltimore woman who allegedly dumped water on the head of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has been charged with assault, according to reports.

Lacheisa Pailin-Sheffer, 37, of Baltimore was handcuffed by a member of the mayor’s security detail Saturday after she ran up to the city leader and poured a cup of water on her head at the Mondawmin Festival, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Rawlings-Blake was fine afterward, her press adviser told WBAL; Pailin-Sheffer was charged with second-degree assault.

“It was more shocking than anything else,” the mayor said in an interview with The Baltimore Sun.

Rawlings-Blake was scheduled to deliver remarks near Mondawmin Mall, the site of a standoff that spiraled into riots on April 27.

The July 11 Mondawmin Festival was designed to connect residents with resources such as employment services and health care opportunities and recharge the area with positive energy.

“This is an excellent way to bring people together to celebrate the community and also have fun,” Rawlings-Blake said in advance of the festival. “I also want to provide an opportunity to reach out to residents with information about health, education and employment resources. This event will bring all of these resources to one location. My hope is that families will connect with services and information that enhance their resilience and strengthen our communities.”
