Baseball: Calvert Hall's Krieger Rises With Brewers
Scott Krieger, a 2005 Calvert Hall grad, is in his third season in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization.
Even now, Scott Krieger can still remember his baseball coaches at Calvert Hall College High School preaching to him about the importance of hard work.
“The number-one thing they instill in their players, and instilled in me, is just the importance of hard work,” Krieger said. “They helped me realize that I wouldn’t be able to get to [the professional] level without hard work and just going out every day and giving your best.”
Getting to the professional level had been a goal of Krieger’s for as long as he can remember. And although he says he wasn’t projected as a major league player coming out of high school, he continued to put in the necessary work he knew it would take to one day become one.

The 24-year old outfielder, who graduated from Calvert Hall in 2005, is batting .275 with 27 extra-base hits - 17 doubles, three triples, seven home runs – and 35 RBIs for the Class-A Brevard County (FL) Manatees. He has hit 31 home runs in his three seasons in Milwaukee’s organization.
“Scott’s been a nice piece for us,” Brevard manager Jeff Isom said. “He’s done a nice job. He features a strong bat, has power and does a nice job [defensively] in the outfield as well.”
Krieger grew up in Towson, minutes away from Calvert Hall’s campus. At Calvert Hall, he was a three-year varsity player and was named All-County and All-Metro in both his junior and senior seasons. He batted .500 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs as a junior in 2004 and hit .524 with nine home runs and 45 RBIs as a senior in 2005. During the 2005 season, the Cardinals won a state-record 31 straight games and finished the year ranked No. 7 in the USA Today National Poll. Krieger posted a .467 career batting average at Calvert Hall and slugged 21 home runs.
At George Mason University, he was a four-year starter batting .356 with 57 doubles, 11 triples, 69 home runs and 238 RBIs. He hit .365 or better during each of his last three years with the Patriots and hit at least 20 home runs during each of those three seasons. He had a career-best 80 RBIs as a senior in 2009.
Now, Krieger is focused on having continued success in the Brewers’ organization and doing whatever he needs to in order to one day reach the major leagues.
Krieger and the Manatees wrap up their regular season Sept. 4.
“Obviously, I’d love to get a chance to play in the big leagues,” Krieger said. “I just want to finish this year out strong, continue to play and hopefully get a chance to get to the big leagues at some point.”
