BmoreArt’s Cara Ober Named Deutsch Foundation’s Communications Manager

Towson, Aug. 22, 2016 – The Robert W. Deutsch Foundation has appointed BmoreArt’s founding editor and publisher Cara Ober as the organization’s new Communications Manager.

In her new role, Ober will apply her experience as a writer, editor, archivist, educator, and social media practitioner to communicate Deutsch Foundation initiatives and activities in the Baltimore region and beyond. Through its website, blog, and social media channels, Ober will create transparency and access between the Foundation and the general public, and will build and populate a searchable database of grants, funded projects and fellowships.

Ober founded BmoreArt in 2007 to create awareness, critical discourse, and connections in the Baltimore arts community. Since 2012, the independent publication has been funded in part by the Deutsch Foundation. Through the creation of an editorial board, the hire of a managing editor, and contractual bylaws, the online art journal will continue to operate as an autonomous entity where individual contributors voice their opinions, including artistic and social critique. Ober is joining the Deutsch Foundation team as a part-time employee and will continue her role as Founding Editor and Publisher at BmoreArt.

“Our respect, admiration and appreciation for Cara’s work, talents and passion cannot be more underscored,” said Jane Brown, President of the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation. “Cara’s background, expertise and knowledge of the city are welcomed assets to The Foundation and we all could not be happier that she has joined our team to help further our mission.”

Brown noted that all editorial decisions concerning BmoreArt will continue to be made separately from the Deutsch Foundation’s interests, just as they have since 2012.

“This is an amazing opportunity for me to explore and connect more broadly with the larger universe of innovation happening in Baltimore,” says Ober. “I am looking forward to delving deeper into the foundation’s work in vital areas of racial equity, education and community development, and telling the stories of individuals and organizations who are shaping and building a better Baltimore.”

The Robert W. Deutsch Foundation was established in 1992 by serial entrepreneur Robert Deutsch and Florence Kadish Deutsch, with the intention of revitalizing communities, supporting education and helping others. The Foundation exists to promote innovation in science and technology, the arts, community revitalization, and social justice. The Foundation focuses its funding in the Baltimore area.
