Crashes On I-83 Add Up Amid Wintry Mix
BREAKING: Crashes have been reported along Interstate 83 in Baltimore County Wednesday, officials say. Drivers should be extra careful.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A wintry mix has been falling since dawn, and officials caution roads may be icy in Baltimore County on Wednesday. Several crashes have been reported along Interstate 83 between I-695 and the Pennsylvania state line, according to Maryland State Police. Roads were treated again with salt, and drivers are encouraged to exercise caution.
All lanes were closed on I-83 south due to a vehicle that flipped in the area of Old York Road around 7:30 a.m., state transportation officials reported. Backups extended to the Pennsylvania state line, officials said.
Three salt trucks were deployed to treat the roads and lead southbound traffic, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Motorists should take extra care when approaching bridges and overpasses, which tend to freeze first. In addition, bear in mind that speed limits are designed for normal conditions. Drivers are advised to go slow in ice and snow, and increase following distance.
The Baltimore Department of Transportation said it had used more than 300 tons of salt, and crews were still at it as of 8:30 a.m.
