Greater Baltimore Medical Center Names Dr. Alyson Wells New Chief of Plastic Surgery

-First Female Physician Appointed As Division Chief Within The Department of Surgery-

Towson plastic surgery specialist Alyson Wells, M.D., F.A.C.S. has been named the new Chief of Plastic Surgery at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). Dr. Wells has been a full-time active staff member of GBMC since 2003 and has her own private practice, Valley Plastic Surgery.

“Dr. Alyson Wells is an outstanding plastic surgeon, physician and administrator. We are convinced that she will serve not only the needs of the Division of Plastic Surgery, but also those of the surgeons and staff,” says Harold (Hal) J. Tucker, M.D., Chief of Staff at GBMC.

Wells is replacing the retiring William Crawley, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S. who headed the division since 2009. As part of her administrative duties, she will be overseeing 30 board-certified plastic surgeons on staff with practices that cover the entire spectrum of plastic surgery, including the credentialing of those physicians.

Wells’ credentials and character align well with GBMC’s mission. A board-certified plastic surgeon, she graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1991 and received her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996. This was followed by her first residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and then a second residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Miami. She is part of a relatively small group of surgeons nationally that are board-certified in both Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

“GBMC is an outstanding community hospital, and I am proud that they have chosen me to help with continued improvement in performance and patient care,” says Wells. “I look forward to expanding the plastic surgery division and I am very excited to be a part of the continued excellence and patient care for which GBMC is well known.”

Wells’ surgical interests include facial cosmetic surgery, cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, and body contouring following weight loss. She also has researched extensively and published many professional papers in the fields of facial plastic surgery, organ transplantation and cancer.

In addition to her duties at GBMC, Wells will continue to head Valley Plastic Surgery, her full-service plastic surgery practice.
