Comptroller Celebrates Towson Area Businesses on Maryland Day

The "tax man" is paying a visit to three successful establishments in greater Towson for Maryland Day, a commemoration of the day settlers first arrived on Maryland soil: March 25, 1634.

Comptroller Peter Franchot, known as the collector of Marylanders' taxes, planned three stops in the Towson area Tuesday to honor local businesses making their mark on the state and its economy.

At The Real Thing, Franchot will present a proclamation to owner Tony Marwah at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. Marwah came to the U.S. from New Delhi, India, and opened the original eatery on York Road in 1987, which boasts having the best cheesesteak sub in the Towson area, according to a statement from Franchot.

The comptroller will then travel to Monkton at 12:15 p.m. to present founders Curt and Kyle Sherrer of Millstone Cellars with a proclamation recognizing the locally owned family business for its rich artisan ciders and meats, the statement said.

At 1:30 p.m., the comptroller will visit Black Eyed Susan Coffee Candy Cream & More in Glyndon, which specializes in Maryland-themed gifts and gift baskets.

At 3:15 p.m., Franchot will attend the Towson University baseball game against Coppin State, weather permitting.
