Here is the letter Williams issued Monday, July 1, through Baltimore County Public Schools.

Dear Team BCPS,

I would like to begin by thanking you for welcoming me to Baltimore County.

Growing up not far away in the District of Columbia, education made a huge difference in my life. I had teachers who believed in me and inspired me to achieve even more than I could have imagined.

Their encouragement is the reason why I am focused on raising the bar, closing gaps, and preparing for our future. That is exactly what educators did for me.

Every student deserves to have at least one adult in the building whom they trust. In the coming months, I look forward to listening closely to feedback from our students, staff, and community members.

Thank you to our leaders and staff for investing in nearly 115,000 students. I would also like to thank families for choosing our schools.

Sincerely,
Darryl L. Williams, Ed.D.
