Police ID Suspect Killed in Towson Liquor Store Holdup
The 25-year-old allegedly pointed a handgun at the head of the clerk, who produced his own gun, Baltimore County police say.
TOWSON, MD - Police have identified the man who tried to rob a Towson liquor store and was shot to death instead by the clerk.
Claude Edward Mayo, 25, of the 900 block of Arlington Avenue in Baltimore, was pronounced deceased outside Towson Wines & Spirits after pointing a gun at the clerk, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.
Police say a second suspect in the robbery attempt remains at large Tuesday morning.

According to the report from police, Mayo and a second suspect went into the liquor store in the unit block of Pennsylvania Avenue before 7 p.m. and announced a robbery.

Mayo and his partner were both armed with handguns, the report said.
After Mayo pointed his gun at the clerk’s head, the 68-year-old liquor store employee got out a gun and shot the 25-year-old suspect several times, according to the report. The handgun was in a drawer behind the counter, police said.
Both suspects left the store without any money or merchandise, according to police.
Mayo collapsed nearby and was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The second suspect continued running and remains at large as of Tuesday morning, police report.
The body of Mayo was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, according to police, who told WBAL the clerk is not likely to face charges.
