Ice Cream Truck Sold Meth, Marijuana: Police

Two men were arrested after police found a handgun, drug paraphernalia and drugs with a street value between $2,000 and $4,000.

LONG BEACH, CA – When the ice cream truck rolled into Long Beach blaring its siren song, it was hawking something far more addictive than ice cream sandwiches and SpongeBob SqarePants popsicles, according to police. The ice cream truck was really a meth truck, with armed dealers peddling marijuana and meth along with treats for kids, Long Beach Police Department detectives allege.

Narcotics detectives allege the truck was was used as a front for drug sales and arrested two men around 4 p.m. Sunday in the 3200 block of East Artesia Boulevard, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt told the Los Angeles Times.

LBPD detectives said they found marijuana and methamphetamine with a street value between $2,000 and $4,000, a scale, a handgun and plastic storage bags inside the ice cream truck.

The two arrested were George Williams, 57, and Monti Ware, 41. Williams was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale and is being held in the Long Beach city jail in lieu of $30,000 bail, KTLA reported.

Ware was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a firearm while selling drugs and being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition, He is being held in the city jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to jail records the news station attained.
