Towson Alumna Hosting Saturday Night Live
As Amy Schumer soars in popularity, she lands hosting gig on SNL.

A Towson University alumna will be hosting an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live.
Amy Schumer will host the Oct. 10 episode of the show, NBC announced this week.
The 34-year-old standup star who recently released her first movie—Trainwreck—will emcee the show the week after Miley Cyrus and the week before Tracy Morgan.

Schumer completed her bachelor’s in theater at Towson in 2003. She chose the university because she thought she wanted to play volleyball; the school had a strong theater department; and the deal-sealer, she told The Baltimore Sun, was that on her campus visit, she won at beer pong and made out with a boy.
After Towson, the Long Island native returned to New York and waited tables for a year before getting her first crack at standup when she was 23 at Gotham Comedy Club in New York, according to The Washington Post.

In the years since, her popularity has soared.
Comedian Jimmy Fallon said recently that Schumer has been “skyrocketing” and “hitting home runs,” describing her as the “hottest, biggest thing.”
Her show Inside Amy Schumer has been on Comedy Central for three seasons; she’s been named Trailblazer of the Year by Glamour magazine; she was listed among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People; she spoke out about gun laws after a shooting during a showing of her movie in Louisiana; and she hosted the MTV Movie Awards.
In particular, Schumer is celebrated among women for her hilarious honesty about relationships.
“I didn’t mean to become a beacon for feminism,“ Schumer told Entertainment Weekly, ”but I’m really embracing it.”
