'We Must Remain United Against Hate': Loyola Blakefield President

The president of a Catholic private school in Towson said that the violence in Pittsburgh is a call to action for the faith community.

TOWSON, MD — The president of Loyola Blakefield responded to the massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh that occurred on Saturday, Oct. 27. He said that the private Catholic school for boys has a responsibility as a "center of faith" to embrance diversity.

"What took place at the Tree of Life Synagogue was an attack on a community of faith, one that extends across the globe. Loyola Blakefield stands by our Jewish brothers and sisters, and condemns anti-Semitism and hatred in any and all forms," Loyola Blakefield President Anthony Day wrote in a statement to the community on Monday, Oct. 29.

"Loyola Blakefield will continue to do its part to ensure that there is less room for hatred in this world, and more for empathy and love. We need it now more than ever," Day said. "As we work to heal from the acts of violence that unceasingly pervade our society, we must remain united against hate and committed to the dignity and protection of people from all faiths and cultures. Please join us in praying for the 11 victims of the attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue, their families, and all victims of violence."
