One of the things we do at Maryland SportsCare & Rehab; besides providing outstanding Physical Therapy services, is provide Athletic Training services to the Carroll County High Schools.
With the heat wave upon us, our Athletic Trainers have some words of wisdom to assist everyone during these steamy days:
Tips for doing things outside in the heat
1. Drink plenty of fluids. Water is the best. Sports drinks are second. Avoid caffeine beverages if possible.
2. Get acclimated to the heat. Do things in small time frames and gradually extend. If it takes you 2 hours to mow the lawn; performing in four, 30 minute segments is better than two, one hour segments.
3. Do most activities before 10am and after 3pm. Avoid the peak of the heat.
4. Wear light colored clothes and cotton based fabrics that will allow the body's sweat to be absorbed and evaporate....it helps cool the body.
Be safe, have fun.
