No one knows you are writing music anymore.
Seriously. You can have a respectable twitter feed, your own website, magical elves, several albums, and even perform live and people won't spread the word because they literally don't want to.
It takes too much effort. Much easier to simply listen and walk away as a fan, that way you don't have to worry about any rejection from other people who might not be as interested.
So as an artist, I recommend giving away your music for free. Your fans can simply like it or not like it, take it or leave it, and talk about it with the cop out of "Oh well, it was free." Then they're going to walk away without feeling bad.
It's genius because after they leave, their friend, who pretended they weren't into anything that wasn't Miley Cyrus, is going to Google the heck out of that song or your name and find the free music.
Because it's free. And if they like that song, they'll probably buy your album.
Because you're poor.
And you can keep doing your thing. Keep rocking out because there's no pressure to make any money, this is your hobby. Your music doesn't have to be "perfect" because you're not famous, and that makes it unique.
Which will make people interested.
So as a form of shameless self promotion, i'm going to give you some free music. I don't care if you listen to it or not. I don't care if you figure out how to download it.
I don't care if you buy it.
