Waste Not! Carroll Update

Well, we had an enormously successful recycling and composting effort at last weekend's Common Ground on the Hill Music Festival (http://www.commongroundonthehill.org/index.html)!  We logged over 168 volunteer hours for the two day event, and check out these totals:

Each unit equals one 55 gallon drum, except where noted

Cardboard  5
'Stretchy' Plastic Bags  3
Styrofoam  3
Mixed single stream recycling  11
Compost  3
Aluminum Cans  2
Wine Bottles (empty!)  4 cases

Next up, the MD Wine Festival (http://www.marylandwine.org/mwf/) on September 21st and 22nd at the Carroll County Farm Museum.  Sally has the volunteer sign-up page on-line again (http://www.helpersignup.com/viewsheet.php?type=2&sheet=4d70f2afb0d11f6ad945b

>), and it's just a few simple clicks of the mouse away to join in the fun!  As always, volunteers get free admission to the big Event, a WN!C t-shirt to call their own, and all the praise we can heap on them!

And the Green Business Network, the new joint venture that recognizes local businesses for leadership in protecting the environment and conserving natural resources is off to a great start!  Visit that website (www.planetcarroll.org) to see what businesses are on-board already, and there are more in the pipeline, too!  And as always, if you know of a business we need to contact to encourage to join, please let us know.  All instructions and forms are available on the website, and I believe Joe has the Scorecard formatted so you even fill it out on-line and e-mail it back to us, saving on the printing and postage!

Speaking of the Green Business Network, we will be discussing that program and how we intend move it forward at the next meeting of Waste Not! Carroll, scheduled for this Wednesday, July 24th, starting at 7 pm, in the Large Meeting Room of the Westminster Branch of the CCPL.  Please come out and join in, and, who knows, there could be a spontaneous breakout of some 'trash-talking', too!
