Phone Threat to School Under Investigation: Sheriff
West Middle was the third school in Westminster to receive a threat this week.

WESTMINSTER, MD – Officials are investigating a phone threat that temporarily cleared out West Middle School Tuesday morning, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office was reportedly notified that someone had phoned in the threat at 9:55 a.m., at which time administrators were evacuating the school in the unit block of Monroe Street as a precaution.
Deputies and Westminster Police officers helped secure the school while law enforcement searched the campus, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said the search was complete by 11:10 a.m., and there was no threat found.
The school resumed normal operations at 11:25 a.m., the sheriff’s office reported.

The incident at West Middle School comes the week after two school threats were received in Westminster—one at Cranberry Station Elementary and the other at Winters Mill High School.
“Detectives are working with other law enforcement partners throughout the region to determine similarities with other recent incidents,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Authorities continue to investigate the source of the threat.
