• MCPS Hosts Six Regional Back-to-School Fairs August 22 Across Montgomery County (moderatelymoco.com) — Families in Wheaton can head to Wheaton High School on Saturday, August 22, from 3–6 p.m. for a regional back-to-school fair serving the Wheaton/Thomas Edison and nearby clusters. MCPS is replacing one big countywide event with six neighborhood fairs, some offering free student immunizations, to make it easier for families to connect with school staff and resources close to home. 
• Fight over turf versus grass school athletic fields intensifies in Montgomery County (wjla.com) — An intensifying fight over artificial turf versus natural grass in Montgomery County is playing out on a Wheaton field, where advocates say turf runs dangerously hotter than grass. County Executive Marc Elrich and environmental activists argue turf is bad for kids, budgets, and the environment, while MCPS and youth sports groups counter that synthetic fields offer durability and heavy-use benefits.
